02/05/2011: Mystery Station

Last week, the Sells Studio transmitter started receiving a curious signal. After tuning in for a while, we decided to record what we heard. Over the course of the two hours we managed to identify some sounds by Belbury Poly, Javelin, and brand new music from Ducktails. Berlin-based duo Hype Williams are featured, and the second-half is full of some odd, beautiful releases from Roswell Return, Objekt, Siriusmo, and the latest from Mux Mool. Enjoy the strange frequencies.

01/29/2011: Ray Tracing

Our calculations led us to discover a new range of sounds within the  hip-hop, dub, house, and 2-step galaxies. Onra delivers “The One,” while Alice Russell and Cee Lo Green present their latest soul creations. Madlib releases the 11th edition of his “Medicine Show” series, and UNKLE returns with a brand new single. The second half features stellar remixes, including Digital Mystikz reinventing a Mortiz Von Oswald Trio track, and Bibio doing his take on Neon Indian’s “Mind, Drips.” House tunes from Efdemin and Julio Bashmore wind things down, and we close with the latest single from George Fitzgerald on Hotflush Recordings. Trace along, with your eardrums.

01/22/2011: Terrains

We travelled great lengths to record this episode. Over the course of our trip we heard some intriguing sounds from Kompakt co-founder Jurgen Paape, talented upstart Jacques Greene, and the minimal beauty of Alveol. Later on we caught a glimpse of some familiar old friends. Marumari led us into the “Birch Beer Forest,” while the Glitch Mob and Take presented us with their latest remixes. Things slowed down a bit, and we drifted along the lazy calm with the Cocteau Twins, Arovane, and Morgan Packard. We might have made it home. Here is our audio journal.

01/15/2011: Coded

It’s a new week, and we’re pleased to prescribe a fresh dose of future music to cure the winter blues! The first-half kicks off with a brand new instrumental cut from Ruckus Roboticus, and features some recent releases from Panda Bear (he seems to turn up everywhere these days) and Disko B artist, Console. oOoOO delivers a beautiful, genre-less track and leads into some minimal tech material from Martyn, while Scuba offers his signature to a remix of Fink’s “See It All.” More new music in the second-half: Jus Wan says goodbye with a track from his latest (and final?) release, Houses provide some infectious lo-fi sounds, and fresh tunes from Marco Bernardi and Isolee leads to a very danceable conclusion. Not to be missed.

01/08/2011: Motion Stunt

This week was our first official show of 2011, and we brought some first class tracks to celebrate the start of our fourth year on WCRS. The first hour features some dubstep for the head, including a new single from dBridge, and a song from James Blake’s anticipated debut album. There are some still-fresh tracks from 2010 courtesy of ASC, John Roberts, Sei A, and Maxmillion Dunbar. During the second half you’ll hear new songs from Oneohtrix Point Never side-project Games, the dreamy sounds of Laurel Halo, the frantic turns of Mice Parade, and the return of Daft Punk! Our updated playlist system now has time stamps for your track-identifying needs! Enjoy.

12/18/2010: Year.End (Part One)

The time has come to present selections from our favorite albums of 2010! After another year of terrific releases, we’ve collectively assembled two hours of first class beats. This year’s show could have easily been four hours long, and sadly, many great tracks were left behind. Regardless, we’re sure you’ll enjoy this look back on some of the year’s best future music!

There were many highlights over the year, and we’d like to thank WCRS for their continued support as well as our listeners in Columbus and abroad!

Below we have included 10 consensus favorites, as well as our individual 20 favorite albums of the year. We encourage you to send us your own favorites and recommendations to dj@beatoracle.net. On New Year’s Day we’ll be airing part two of our best of 2010 special, and will feature some of our favorite songs from 12” singles, EPs, and albums we couldn’t include in this week’s episode. Thanks again to our listeners and to all who came out to see us live. Be prepared for more great “future music” in 2011!

12/11/2010: Outgoing

We had an focused late night recording session for our last regular show of 2010 and it turned out to be one of the best of the year. The first hour starts into psychedelia courtesy of Oneohtrix Point Never’s take on the new Sistol release. After some beat heavy weirdness including to new releases from Seams, Lone, and Space Dimension Controller, the hour ends with a pair of lovely covers by Chromatics and James Blake. Hour two kicks off with Tri-Angle witch-house from oOoOO, then heads into lush productions with releases from Tunng, Keep Shelly in Athens, School of Seven Bells, and Underworld. Don’t sleep on this one. Next week we’ll be back with the first of our 2010 retrospective sets.
