100th Episode Celebrity-Cellulite Spectacular!

It came to our attention recently ( about 10 mins. ago) that we’ve passed the 100th episode milestone.

Two weeks ago. On April 29th. No giant cakes or motorcade, I’m afraid.

This number is based on the available archived shows, and doesn’t take into account the infancy days at ACRN in Athens, Ohio. In any case, we’d like to extend our warmest thanks to our listeners. We’ll be toasting to you as we make up for weeks of self-congratulatory drinking.

Cheers

Third

Can’t stop playing the new Portishead album. Really incredible. Ten years worth of quality control, indeed.

In other news, an all ambient edition is on the horizon. Probably two hours worth. Get out your red light bulbs!

Apologies for a lack of updates. Our web-bot was in the shop, but now all is well.

On Cue

It’s been a busy month for us at Sells Studio. The boss is breathing down our neck, hounding us for those monthly reports, the relatives insist on having us over for tea, and the dog continues to drop its ball at our feet, begging for attention. All we really want is to sit down, have a drink,  and spend some quality time with our records…

Here’s a list of what’s helping us cope with the poor housing market, the dismal food crisis, unending war, drought, famine, John Arne Riise’s own goal, and prevailing ignorance:

Michael’s “Music from the first quarter of 2008:”

Apparat – Walls
Autechre – Quaristice
El Guincho – Alegranza
Fennesz & Sakamoto – Cendre
Goldfrapp – Seventh Tree + Monster Love (Spiritualized vs. Goldfrapp)
Justus Kohncke – Safe and Sound
Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks – Real Emotional Trash
Neon Neon – Stainless Style
The Orb – The Dream
Why? – Alopecia

Joseph’s  “On Repeat:”

Stars of the Lid –  “And Their Refinement Of The Decline”
Ghost –  “Second Time Around”
Sun Kil Moon –  “April”
Scott Walker –  ” The Drift”
Autechre –  “Quaristice”
The Fall –  ” Grotesque”
Kiln –  “Dusker”
John Cale – “Fear”
Loscil – “Stases”

Kenny’s “Recent Record Bin Finds:”

My friend in NYC has turned me on to early 80s Pete Shelley solo work.

I’ve picked up Bogdan Raczynski – Alright,
Disrupt – Foundation Bit, nearly the whole Misc. full length discography!,
Bochum Welt –
Elan, Toy – s/t on Smalltown Supersound – a truly silly joy-infused bouncy bump story,
The Whitest Boy Alive ( an Erlend Oye project!),
Dreamies – Program Twelve,
Blotnik Brothers – Mizuage (on Satamile – one of the best current electro labels & it’s based in NYC).

Let us know what you’ve been listening to!

Blah Blah Blahog

Well, it’s come to this. In an age where every pet llama has a blog, we at The Beat Oracle will concede that we are fiercely behind the times. In an effort to interact with our listeners we will be launching a blog to discuss…well, practically anything. Music, mayhem, the confusing success of Crocs, whatever.

So please, think of this as a chance to say hello, send a request, yell at us,  recommend something, or share a recipe (no Haggis, please).

Thanks for listening, and turn it up.
