Winter Storm Warning

After a long week of shoveling snow and chipping the ice from our cars, we decided to turn up the bass, and let the break-beats take over. Hip-hop classics dominate hour one, as  experimental and electronic tracks take over the second half.  I’d like to thank Michael and Kenny for making this one a Sells Studio certified classic.

Pre-Pomp

My apologies for getting this show/podcast up late. I spent the weekend in DC celebrating some political change going on in our country, and I let this slip through the cracks. Anyway–last week DJ Vagabond meditated on 8 years of tyranny while Yogi and I dropped a bunch of recent and upcoming releases including stuff from Tim Hecker, Eliot Lipp, B Fleischmann, Aus., Nightmares on Wax. Oh–speaking of NoW, they will be at the Grog Shop in Cleveland on Jan. 30th. Ohio’s been lacking in good shows lately, so check it out.

Music is Math

This week’s equation: 3 S(ets) = 1 various (courtesy – Michael) + Knackered/electro + 40 mg of ambien

The big idea: Facehole brought some new records into the Sells Studio this week. He demanded that we sit down, stop fidgeting, and listen to brilliant new tracks from Juana Molina, Animal Collective, SCSI-9, Miwon and Kid 606. Not only did this minimize the time we had to listen to him rant about his virtual soccer league, but it proved to be a great set. Then Kenny introduced us to his West Yorkshire “mate” (that means he’s British) DJ Knackered, who dropped an extended selection of “chillectro” tracks. The show’s final third beautifully lulls along with Fennesz, Philip Jeck, Grouper, and more. Listen up.

2009 Year.Start

Hello, and happy New Year! We’re starting off 2009 with a look back at our favorite songs of the year. Many of the tracks come from 12” singles, EPs, and albums that we couldn’t fit into our last show. Have a dance, and enjoy!

We’re also excited to announce that the show will now be streaming live every Thursday night, 9-11 PM (Eastern) on WCRS.
