Live Mix Series 3/3

I finish off the Comfest mix series this week with a set of deep beats. The first half is comprised of some deep minimal electronic songs, including some tracks by the Raster-Norton crew (Alva Noto remixing Bjork, Byetone) then a transition into hip-hop including tracks by Double Dee & Steinski, Jungle Brothers and Alias. The show closes with one of my favorite cuts of the year: Portishead’s The Rip. We’ll be back at full strength next week!

Live Mix Series: 2/3

Kenny is at the helm in our three-part series of Comfest mixes this week. As expected, he brings the dance jams starting off with a retro sound (4mat, Neon Neon) moving towards a more experimental sound with the likes of The Tuss (aka RDJ), Shpongle, and Pendulum.

Live Mix Series: 1/3

This week Joe steps up to the plate in the first of our three shows featuring mixes prepared for the ill-fated comfest set. We only made it about 30 minutes into the set at comfest when a huge downpour starting filling up our booth with mudd, causing us to quickly abort and unplug. This is is an amazing journey moving through fresh beat styles–dubstep, dub, afrobeat, broken beat, hip-hop and psychedelic music… Stay tuned for Kenny’s mix next week.

Slowly

Last week we recorded a very special 2-hour Internet-only mix inspired by quiet moments. We’re pretty happy with the way this came out…and we’re calling it the first installment of our “Slowly” series.

You’ll notice we don’t talk at all during this show, because we figure it would be something good to put on when you’re in the sort of place where you don’t want to be disturbed. Enjoy!

Things We Lost In the Fire

This week’s show is dedicated to the Hopkins’ house on Partington Ridge, my favorite place in the world. Every year, a group of friends (music lovers, including TBO DJs past and present) gathers at this wonderful spot to get recharged and inspired for the summer. Unfortunately, the Basin Complex Fire has taken the home we have cared so much for. Our thoughts go out to everyone impacted by the various wildfires raging right now. This show features reairs of a couple of my favorite sets mixed with audio collages recorded at Big Sur in 2005. In coming weeks we will have a show featuring brand new collages recorded in 2008, being produced by Deaf Dot Electrics.
